George Robert Partridge (also known growing up as Robert or Bobby): Born January 16, 1933 on Dad’s small farm on Pleasantdale Road, Doraville, DeKalb County, Georgia. This was near the little two-store community of Pittsburg at the intersection of the Norcross-Tucker and Tucker-Chamblee roads. We moved to a farm on the Tucker-Chamblee Road in 1934 and to a farm on the Norcross-Lilburn Road (Rockbridge Road – now Jimmy Carter Boulevard) in 1936 where I spent my growing up years – on Dad’s farm. My interest was flying, not farming.

After five grades at the Glover community school I transferred to Lilburn School, Lilburn, Georgia; graduating from Lilburn High School in 1949 at age 16.

I began two years of study at North Georgia College in 1950 and enlisting in the US Marine Reserve at NAS Atlanta in 1951. I was unsuccessful in applying for Naval Aviation Cadet Training in 1951. My brother, Richard (Earl), and I enlisted in the US Air force in March 1952 during the Korean War. We did not go to Korea. I continued in the Air Force as an aircraft crew chief and was accepted for Air Force Aviation Cadet pilot training in June 1955 – Pilot Class
56-V: Graduating September 13, 1956; commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Richard filmed the event. My fiancé, Pat (Parttridg) Wells pinned my wings and my Mom my 2nd Lieutenant’s bars. Pat and I were married September 18, 1956 at the Brookhaven Baptist Church, Brookhaven, Georgia. She was my first cousin (Dad’s brother John’s daughter). As a small boy of nine, I had a secret crush on Pat (also known as Patricia or Tish) from the first time I met her.

Pat had a son, Norris Allan Wells, from a divorced marriage. She and I had a son, Robert Douglas Partridge, born September 3, 1957. I adopted Norris in 1963 or 64. While attending the University of Richmond, Virginia, he married Gwenda Kay Fackrell of Boise, Idaho. He died of heart failure on September 5, 2000. Robert graduated from the University of Florida in 1980.

I retired from the Air Force as a Lt Colonel on October 1, 1984 at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. I then worked with a developmental center for the mentally disabled. Pat worked for a local newspaper and died instantly of a massive heart attack on March 5, 2001. She was at work – a job she dearly loved.

On April 3, 2004 I married Margaret Therese Ellis at the First Baptist Church in Prattville, Alabama. Margaret is an English nurse and medical missionary. We were introduced by a mutual friend who had also been a good friend of Pat’s. As of May 2010 we live in Prattville, Alabama.
